Well, we've discovered the joy of toddler tacos!
And if you REALLY want your taco to giggle, swing it from side to side! You'll hear shrieks of laughter! Caution, though: the taco won't want to stop anytime soon...
We stayed in town for Christmas weekend this year (or should I say last year?). My mom and brother came and spent the holiday with us, which was a great treat (although brief). We were HOPING that Madeline would rush the tree in the morning and get excited about opening presents. Instead, we ended up opening most of them while she played with the paper, the ribbons, and - occasionally - the contents.
We've seen this toy piggy bank at food therapy, and she goes nuts for it! Yay for easy buys!

The next day, we got up early to make the looooong drive down to IL to see Caleb's family. We borrowed a portable DVD player from a friend at church, and boy is that thing handy! Madeline is rarely interested in sitting still for longer than a few minutes, but Elmo can capture her attention for extended periods of time. Yay!
Waiting for us at Ted and Jan's house were Caleb's sister's family! Those little redheads were both entertaining and (at times) overwhelming for Madeline. She enjoyed watching them, playing next to them, etc, but wasn't used to how much noise three other kids make. She made herself at home quickly, though, and discovered how much fun it is to climb on Grammie's furniture. Jan has a little folding table and chairs that are kid-sized, and I swear it was as if Madeline climbed up and down all week long! It's a good thing Grammie and Grandpa gave her a little table of her own for Christmas.

As a treat, Caleb's grandmother came to visit for an afternoon. It was wonderful to see her, but all four kids were having a terrible day. I think everyone was sleep deprived, plus some were fighting the flu. None the less, we did get SOME quality time with great-grandma:

And, of course, there was always stuff to do - like sitting in Grammie's chair, reading a book, climbing down for a new book, and asking to be helped back in to start the whole thing again!

After IL we drove through WI to see some of my family and relatives. We stopped in for a pizza dinner at my Grandmother's house (dad's side), and I got to meet my new cousin, Paige. For those who aren't familiar, my uncle Pat is 11 years older than me, and he and his wife Kelly had their first baby a year ago. They've just recently moved from VT to WI, so we'd never met each other's baby before. Even though Paige is 6 months younger than Madeline, Paige was taller and heavier than her! In all fairness, both Pat and Kelly are tall people. It was sweet to see the girls "play" together and try to imitate each other.

Madeline was a cheerful girl for dinner, and Mommy and Daddy
really appreciated that. Pizza is too yummy to have to eat quickly!

We spent the night with my other grandmother (Hi Grandma Emily! Thanks again for letting us sleep over!), then drove up to Appleton to wish my brother a happy birthday (25!!). We rang in the new year up there, then drove (exhausted by now) back home.
