Fun around the house

Valerie and Will gave Madeline a shopping cart for her birthday. Leave it to Caleb to find a totally new way to play with it! He puts Madeline in the cart and zooms around the house. She LOVES it.

We had a great Labor Day weekend. We got a lot done around the house (it feels so good to get that "to do" list checked off!), plus had a neighbor over for a playdate again. Madeline immediately cuddled right up to Jen, Ella's mom (below). She's so cuddly, everyone loves it (and why wouldn't they?).

Notice the necklaces? Ella and Madeline are two peas in a pod!

At one point, Madeline started throwing a tantrum.

We officially started "food therapy" this week. Right now we're going in to see her Occupational Therapist (Amy) twice a week, for 20 sessions. What it comes down to is that Madeline's brain isn't processing tactile sensory information as well as it should. If you think of the way your brain processes touch, texture, etc, as being a muscle, Madeline's muscle is just a little weak. It's not a big deal, and already we've made great improvements! She's started eating Puffs - which previously always made her gag! We have a number of exercises that we do every few hours to help her brain "wake up" and get used to processing tactile information. Oh, and have you ever noticed how Madeline doesn't like her hands being touched? If you reach out to hold her hand, she's always immediately pulled it away (even as an infant). It turns out that it's related! She's just more sensitive to touch, I guess. Anyway, the therapy will help with that, too.

Meanwhile, she's busy getting bigger right before our eyes. The other day she created another new game with a laundry basket:

Yes, she's sitting in it, on its side. She was so proud of herself, too! (I promise you, she has toys, she just really likes to take non-toy items and do things to them...)

Those necklaces are never far away...
