Happy Birthday, Madeline!

This last week, Madeline turned three!! We couldn't resist the temptation to have her first "real" party. Can you guess what theme we went with? Why, a Princess Party, of course!

 

 

Madeline truly does love all of the princesses, but if you ask her, she'll often say that Rapunzel is her favorite. Caleb made a chocolate cake (with Madeline's help), and decorated it to look like a Rapunzel cake - complete with "hair" flowing down and around. In case you're wondering, that's a doll in the middle - not icing. Madeline loved all of it!

 

For the first activity at the party, the kids decorated their own crowns! Which is to say, the parents hovered and tried to keep up with the kids' demands. We used craft foam, and regular glues don't work. Hence the rubber cement, sticky fingers, and parents doing most of the work. I thought the result was adorable though!

 

 

 

We had a few "princess" related games, including Feed the Dragon.

See, in order to rescue the princess, you have to get past the dragon. So the kids threw (toy) food in his mouth. It was a hit!

 

Anytime an item of food didn't make it in, we'd laugh and say that the dragon didn't like it. For example, if someone threw a carrot but missed, we'd say, "Ooo, he doesn't like carrots!"

 

We tried another game, similar to musical chairs, but the kids mostly just watched us as we tried to convince them to dance around.

I can't believe it's been three years already since Madeline came and changed our lives forever!

 

She is such a sweet, chatty, funny, and sensitive little wild-child. Her laughter is contagious, and it melts our hearts to see her being so kind and considerate to other kids. She's such a fantastic big sister, too! She watches out for Olivia, but is gentle at the same time, and delights in making her little sister laugh. She is the most wonderful gift from God - Sweet Madeline, Mommy, Daddy, and Olivia love you sooooo much, and we're proud of the little lady you're becoming!
